Our Beliefs
Belief #1
Style and functionality shouldn't cost the earth.
That's why we use recycled materials in our products, only use compostable or recyclable packaging, and every purchase you make funds the collection of 100 plastic bottles' worth of ocean-bound plastic. Learn more.
Belief #2
Less is more.
Meaning "less" in Spanish, Menos is all about getting the most out of a minimalist design. We focus on the essentials to combine uncompromising functionality with a sleek aesthetic. Our products adapt to your needs, meaning you can go from the office to the airport with ease.
Belief #3
Quality and durability should be the norm, not the exception.
We want to make ethical sourcing and quality craftmanship mainstream by offering durable products built to last at an accessible price point.
Sustainability
When you buy any Menos product, you fund the collection of 100 ocean-bound plastic bottles' worth of plastic before it reaches our seas.
Local people in coastal communities exchange the plastic that they collect for money, helping them get access to microfinance, tuition, healthcare and food.
Our first batch of 600 backpacks will mean 60,000 plastic bottles are collected, preventing 1.2 tons of plastic reaching the ocean.
Both the outer fabric and the inner lining of our backpacks are made from recycled polyethylene tetraphyte (RPET). It's a durable, water resistant material made from recycled plastic. Best of all, a 2017 study found that manufacturing RPET uses 59% less energy and releases 32% less CO2 when compared with virgin polyester.
Each backpack is made from the equivalent of 15 recycled plastic bottles.
We want to end single-use plastic, so package our products in compostable bags and recyclable cardboard boxes.
Through our partnership with Tree Nation, we plant a tree for every order made through our website. This means that we more than offset all shipping and production emissions (including emissions from sending our products to our customers).
We also strive to reduce emissions where we can, including through the use of less energy-consuming recycled materials.
In terms of where we manufacture our products, our first batch of backpacks were made in China, as a significant number of the backpack's high-quality components (waterproof YKK zips, ergonomic buckles, backpanel mesh) are manufactured there.
However, we have plans to manufacture future products closer to home to further reduce our CO2 emissions.
